It started in Rome, with a resignation, a speakeasy and a tattoo.
On my 45th birthday in Rome, I made a decision that would change the direction of my life. I decided to tender my resignation.
That night, I celebrated in a Roman speakeasy in a way that felt perfectly appropriate at the time: I got a tattoo.
A plane. A wine glass. And the words: Get Lost to Find More!
At the time, it was a reminder to myself. Maybe even a little permission slip. I didn’t know those words would eventually become the philosophy behind Mia Without Borders or that the decision I made that day would lead to the life I’m living now.
But somewhere between that tattoo in Rome and everything that came after it, this life was born. And the longer I travel, the more those words make sense.
Some of my favourite memories started with a change of plans, a wrong turn, a conversation with someone I had just met, or a place I knew almost nothing about before I arrived.
For me, Get Lost to Find More isn’t about travelling without direction. It’s about leaving enough room for curiosity. Trying the food you can’t pronounce. Wandering down the street that wasn’t on the itinerary. Talking to people whose lives look nothing like yours. Staying somewhere a little longer because something about it feels right.
Travel has a way of showing you things you weren’t expecting to find. Sometimes that’s a place you never want to leave. Sometimes it’s a person you’ll remember for years. Sometimes it’s a completely different perspective.
And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you find a version of your own life you didn’t know was possible.
That’s what Get Lost to Find More means to me.
